Ticino (URI) Weekend #9: Wilhelm Tell and the Locarno Carnival
After countless weekends of sunshine, it looks like we might step back to winter weather. Which is probably a good thing. This weekend is also important, as covid restrictions will ease everywhere: in Switzerland masks will no longer be required, not even on trains.
Plan for Saturday is then to have a snowy walk in the land that embodies the ideals of heroism and freedom: Altdorf, where Wilhelm Tell shot the arrow through the apple over his son's head.
Given the weather, hike will be short and almost flat:
However, should the trail be walkable, we can go on along
and reach the glockenspiel by Tell's chapel. If we're lucky enough to arrive at the strike of the hour, we might be able to use the biggest bell-based jukebox in Switzerland!
Return will be from Fluelen, around 18:30.
On Sunday, plan is to head to Locarno, for the last postponed Carnival of the year. Once again, live music and food make the Stranociada Carnival appealing (risotto won't be free this time, but 5CHF seems quite reasonable!). Hiking-wise, let's enjoy a panoramic walk from the Madonna del Sasso shrine to Contra, as described on Protected content
