« Cézanne and Us »

I invite you at a nocturne discover of « Cézanne and Us” at Grand Palais, offering a unique artistique dialogue among Cezanne and other painters influenced by him.

Cézanne’s paintings are shown alongside works by artists who looked closely at his ideas, responded to them and sometimes took them in completely new directions.

Cézanne changed the gaze to reality, rebuilting the world through colour, shape, structure and shifting perspectives. His landscapes, still lifes and figures became a starting point for rethinking what a painting could be.

You can see this conversation unfold across generations: Picasso and Braque pushed Cézanne’s ideas towards Cubism; Matisse and the Fauves explored the freedom of colour; and later artists continued to question the boundary between representing the world and creating a new visual reality.

So the exhibition is not just about Cézanne — it’s about Cézanne in conversation with the artists who came before and after him, and the extraordinary chain of ideas that began with his work.

The exhibition brings together around Protected content , including some 70 by Cézanne, alongside works by artists who were influenced by him.
