In the guided tour, communication coordinator Marianne Reve will give you an introduction to Chéri Samba (b. Protected content JP Mika (b. Protected content key artists from the Congolese art scene!
Samba and Mika can be linked to the art direction Peintres Populaires, which in Norwegian can be translated into folk painting. This art direction is characterized by figurative paintings, inspired by cartoons and advertisements, which often depict political reasons or urban everyday scenes from Kinshasa.
Chéri Samba is often referred to as one of the founders of Peintres populaires, and has had a great influence on younger artists as well. JP Mika can be considered a revival of this tradition with its colorful self-portraits and paintings of Kinshasa's La SAPE environment, a local subculture characterized by its elegant and colorful clothing.
