I loved moving to Brussels. But after a while I felt homesick. On InterNations I met a bunch of people from the US. That helped a lot.

InterNations — A Community for American Expats in Gent

Hello to all Americans in Gent! Are you interested in getting to know fellow expats in Gent? Looking for advice from other Americans, e.g. wondering if there are any bars in Gent which will be showing your favorite baseball or American football team’s upcoming match or where to go in town for st■ turkey?

There’s no doubt about it: like many Belgian cities, Gent is very international. The university town is a port city known for its history as an important trading center, the Gentse Feesten, a ten-day-long music and theater festival, its tenth-century castle Gravensteen, the picturesque medieval old town, and much more! With the city’s bus services (both urban and regional), as well as tram lines and regional rail services in addition to an extremely bicycle-friendly infrastructure, navigating your way around the city from one place to the next is simple. This also means that if you don’t want to live among the hustle and bustle of the center, you can enjoy a quieter life in the neighboring municipalities such as Lochristi or Sint-Martens-Latem, which are up to a 30-minute commute away from Gent’s center.

Although Gent has lots to offer, you might be wondering where and how you can meet other Americans in the city. Luckily, InterNations is here to make this easier for you! You’re warmly invited to join the InterNations community. Within our international network in Gent, there’s a vibrant circle of American expats from all regions of USA, including New York City, Los Angeles, and beyond.
