Transportation in Bonn

In Bonn, two of the most popular forms of transportation are the tram and the bus, as these are a reliable and efficient way to get around. Tickets for both of these can be purchased from vending machines that are situated in different locations around the city — and different types of tickets are available such as daily, weekly and monthly.

Other forms of transportation are available, such as taxis and cars. Although these are reliable and efficient modes of transportation, getting around Bonn on foot is a preferred option for many people, as this is a place full to the brim with exciting and interesting things to see. Walking around instead of using public or personal transport gives you the perfect opportunity to see the true beauty of Bonn in all its glory. To accommodate walkers, Bonn has many pedestrianized areas, making it more enjoyable to stroll around.

Culture and Leisure

Bonn is a city with a history jam-packed of interesting attractions that date back to over 2,000 years ago. As well as the older sights, Bonn also has a variety of modern, up to date places to visit, including theatres where you can watch a huge variety of acts and shows. Bonn has a great nightlife, as well as galleries with both old and new art being shown, along with plenty of museums.

Amongst many other things to do and see in Bonn, these are proving some of the most popular: the German National Museum of Contemporary History; Freizeitpark Rheinaue; Cathedral De Bonn; Beethoven House; Bonn Botanic Garden; and the Beethoven Statue. There is something for everyone to do no matter what age or what you enjoy. Tourist attraction buildings are friendly places with a plethora of information, as well as maps, bus routes and how-to guides for everything you are interested in.

Education in Bonn

Education in Bonn, as in the whole Germany, is split into a first sector, Grundschule, covering grades 1 to 4, and a second one, where pupils have the chance to attend a secondary school according to their academic abilities. Many international schools are available in Bonn, either following the German or international curriculum, and they can be seen on this list.

Higher education opportunities in Bonn are some universities and technical universities; to be mentioned the Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität Bonn, which is an acknowledge top public university, offering courses in English, with almost 35,000 students, and the private International University of Applied Sciences, with its international curriculum.

The Volkshochschule Bonn (VHS) organizes regularly classes targeting the adult English-speaker resident of Bonn, and it is therefore an interesting educational opportunity for expats.
