Living in Novosibirsk
Sometimes referred to as the capital of Siberia, because of its geographical, industrial and cultural importance for that part of the world, Novosibirsk is actually the third most populous city in the whole of Russia. Occupying an area of 501 square kilometers, the population of Novosibirsk is just over 1.5 million people - making it the most populace place in Asian Russia. If you are planning on joining the international community of expats living in Novosibirsk, it could be a good idea to explore the city during a first visit and get a feel for things first. A good place to start exploring is at Lenin's Square, where there is an imposing grey-colored monument of Lenin left over from the Soviet era. If you're looking for some lighter entertainment, or something less politically-focused, you can visit the Novosibirsk Zoo, which is incidentally one of the largest zoos in Russia.

Moving to Novosibirsk
Many expatriates move to Novosibirsk every year, and not only in order to take advantage of the high-quality education that is available (including many international schools) - the Novosibirsk State University has most of its schools located there, including the Novosibirsk State Conservatoire, Novosibirsk State Agricultural University, and the Novosibirsk State Architecture and Construction University. Sports fans flock to the city too, with a team representing pretty much every sport you can think of. Sibir Novosibirsk is, for example, the name of the football team as well as the Ice Hockey team, and the BC Novosibirsk plays in the Basketball super league. If you are moving to Novosibirsk, or at least you're considering your options, a good place to start making sense of expatriate life can be found on the InterNations website. InterNations has forums and articles dedicated to moving overseas, with many like-minded expats living in Novosibirsk or other parts of Russia eager to help fellow expatriates out with information, advice or simply friendship.
