Back to Yoga Basics: Sun Salutation (Surya Namaskar) practice
Without the Sun, there would be no life on Earth.
Surya Namaskara (Skt. सूर्य नमस्कार, sūrya namaskāra) is a very ancient yogi ritual and technique of salutation to the Sun, paying respect or expressing gratitude to the sun that is the source of all forms of life on the planet. On a last summer's Tuesday come and learn what is practiced by yogis since thousands years.
During this 60 min class in English we will start with preparatory Pranayama (breathing techniques), learn Surya Namaskar sequence of 12 yoga postures and Sanskrit mantras, combining movements with breath and completing practice with light meditation. Beginners, all levels are welcome!
The best part about Sun Salutation is that it works well for those ‘super busy’ people who often complain about not being able to do yoga because of a time crunch. Doing 6 sets of Sun Salutation, preferably in the morning, at a fast pace provides a good cardiovascular workout. If done at a slower pace, these postures help tone the muscles and can be relaxing and meditative. Moreover, it always allows you to enjoy the stretch and makes the body more flexible just in 30 minutes.
