Book Group: Meditations From Marcus Aurelius

Meditations is a personal journal written by Marcus Aurelius, the Roman emperor Protected content AD), where he reflects on life, duty, virtue, and human nature. It wasn’t meant for publication — it was Marcus writing to himself to stay grounded and ethical amidst the pressures of ruling an empire.
The text is deeply rooted in Stoic philosophy — a school of thought that teaches that we should focus on what we can control, accept what we cannot, and live according to reason and virtue.
Across twelve short books (or sections), Marcus explores themes like:
Self-discipline: Training the mind to remain steady despite external chaos.
Mortality and impermanence: Remembering that life is brief and we should act with purpose.
Universal interconnectedness: Seeing oneself as a small but important part of a greater whole (nature, cosmos, humanity).
Inner freedom: Realizing that true power lies in our ability to choose our response to events, not in changing the events themselves.
Compassion and justice: Treating others fairly, even when they wrong you, because we all share the same nature
