We catch a ferry from Phetchaburi to Phanfa Bridge ferry stop. The walk from Phanfa Bridge ferry stop, along the khlong to Bang Lamphu, shows a side of Bangkok seldom seen by either Thais or overseas residents. The path has recently been renovated, and we pass fascinating areas containing lovely modern and traditional restaurants, as well as seeing local people at work and at home. We stop at a local duck noodle shop that has been serving the community for over 70 years. Simple food, with a rich history. Along the walk we pass Phra Sumen Fort, built during the reign of King Rama 1. Later, we pass Bang Lamphu museum where the story of the community is told. Next we head to Khao San Road, where a different mix of people awaits us in the world's most famous backpacker streets. After some refreshments, we walk back into the old town along Dinso Road, before passing the magnificant Wat Ratchanatdaram, built during the reign of King Rama III. This will be our last stop as the Phanfa Bridge ferry stop is only a few minutes walk away, where we catch a ferry back to Phetchaburi MRT. Note that people not wanting to return to return to Phetchaburi MRT can, instead, make their way to Phra Athit ferry stop on the Chao Phraya river, and catch an orange boat to Saphan Taksin.
