Traditional Music from Thailand
Get a 20% InterNations discount on tickets for this fantastic concert bringing together the musical traditions of Thailand and the West. In collaboration with the Department of Music, Faculty of Education, Chulalongkorn University, the programme opens with a range of traditional Thai melodies on authentic instruments.
This is followed by the world premiere of a selection of new pieces for piano inspired by traditional music from different provinces of Thailand. These have been arranged by educator and composer Nicholas Keyworth in collaboration with the Mintra Thuntawech at Chulalongkorn University.
The concert culminates in the first complete performance of Nicholas Keyworth’s ‘Crocodile Trio’. This work is written in three movements for three instruments: the Piano, Cello and traditional Thai Jak-he. It evokes the mystical journey of a crocodile as it weaves its way along the Chao Phraya river.
