Workshop on Blockchain & Cryptocurrencies
Let’s get together to increase our understanding about a great topic over a glass of wine: Blockchain and cryptocurrencies.
The first generation of the digital revolution brought us the "Internet of information" in the Protected content . The second generation now—powered by blockchain technology—is bringing us the "Internet of value": a peer-to-peer, decentralized network that can help us reshape the world of business and transform the old order of human affairs for the better.
Blockchain technology is actually rather easy to understand at its core. It is about connecting people and business partners around the world in more rapid and efficient ways. Its conceptual framework and underlying code is useful for a variety of financial processes because of the potential it gives companies a secure, digital alternative to banking processes that are typically bureaucratic, time-consuming and expensive.
This technology will soon transform financial services, reshape the capital markets industry with significant impact on business models. It will recast the role of governments, have implications for competitiveness, business strategy and leadership among others. On the other hand, cryptocurrencies are essentially a digital money, based on this technology, digital tools of exchange that use cryptography to facilitate secure and anonymous transactions, transfer of value worldwide.
This is a real revolution. Sure, it will not happen overnight. We're only in the initial phase of this process, like the Internet in the Protected content .
The presentation will focus on basics about blockchain and the digital currencies. So many seemingly complicated issued will be explained in a simple manner:
What is a blockchain? What is the function of a cryptocurrency? What is its utility? Is it a big deal? How to get it, sell it and why? How to use it, store it? Is it a money or a commodity, or is it just a tool to transfer value? What is a hash? What is mining? What is Bitcoin? What about Ethereum? What is SwissCoin? What is a crypto fund? What is ICO? What are the opportunities and risks? etc. etc.
