join me for a classical ballet

Raymonda, first performed in Protected content the Imperial Marientheater in St. Petersburg, is the last great work of the choreographer Marius Petipa, the creator of Sleeping Beauty, Nutcracker and Don Quixote. To the music of Alexander Glazunov this ballet is ranked equal to the large Tchaikovsky works. If Petipa was a world-famous artist in the last creative phase of Raymonda's creation, 32-year-old Alexander Glasunov had just made a name for himself as a young talent. Together, they created the late climax of the Tsarist ballet era of St. Petersburg, which shapes our concept of ballet classic until today.

At the first ballet gala under Igor Zelensky with stars of the State Ballet, the first soloist Ksenia Ryzhkova and half-soloist Alexander Omelchenko presented themselves in January Protected content the Grand Pas Hongrois, one of Raymonda's choreographic highlights. In May Protected content , the complete work returns to the stage of the National Theater after an eight-year break. The choreographer Ray Barra, who already worked on Swan Lake and Don Quixote in Munich, is also responsible for the Raymonda adaptation at the Bavarian State Ballet. He has preserved the choreographic tradition of Marius Petipa, but worked out the drama of the title heroine more intense. Raymonda is standing between two men: Crusader Jean de Brienne, who has been betrothed to her since his youth, and the Saracen Caliph of Cordoba, Abderakhman, who tries to woo her and to kidnap her. Although Abderakhman is killed by Jean in the fight, so that a splendid wedding party can be the highlight of the ballet. But Raymonda will not forget the encounter with Abderakhman's disturbing erotic primal power and the deep conflict she had to go through.
