Start a career in ESL teaching through this unique opportunity to learn, travel and teach whilst completing a TEFL certification at various locations across Austria! As a Student Teacher on an intensive teacher training course, together with your teaching practice group, you will learn to teach English as a foreign language to young learners. Student Teachers will gain experience teaching in more than twenty different schools while living in different locations in Austria. Course material includes the fundamentals of language learning, teaching skills, language awareness and behaviour management. Experience using technology to teach via an online virtual learning environment is also provided. Thanks to the support of sponsors, donors and our supporting members, the College is structured in such a way so as to subsidize the course costs of each Student Teacher studying for their TEFL certification.

THE COLLEGE

The English Teacher Training College and Bilingual Classroom Initiative (ABCi) is a not-for-profit Austrian college with a dual mission: Firstly, as a college to provide a practical education in teacher training for Student Teachers from the English-speaking world based solely on the candidate's academic merit. Secondly, as a charity outreach, to promote language learning, cultural exchange and foster understanding between English-speaking countries and Austria by bringing hundreds of teachers from the United Kingdom, the Republic of Ireland, America, Canada, South Africa, New Zealand and Australia into Austrian classrooms to reach every child with a free English project by the year Protected content .

WHAT WE PROVIDE:

TEFL (Trinity CertTESOL):

-Trinity College London CertTESOL

-Red Cross First Aid training and certificate

TEFL-YL (Cambridge CELT-P):

-Cambridge English CELT-P

-Specific preparation for Student Teachers to write the Cambridge English TKT examinations (Modules 1,2,3, CLIL and Young Learners)

-Red Cross First Aid training and certificate

In addition to:

-Free accommodation for the duration of the course in Student Teacher dormitories
-Extended training in communicative language teaching, project work, game-based learning and task-based learning techniques
-At least Protected content of practical teaching experience in Austrian classrooms
-Over 29 hours of observed and assessed feedback, including microteaching video feedback, feedback from Course Tutors, feedback from peers and observing a more experienced teacher
-Course-related transportation in Austria

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS:

TEFL (Trinity CertTESOL):

-English is the applicant’s first language (i.e. mother tongue)
-An interest in teaching English and working with children
-A-Levels or higher
-At least 18 years of age
-Ability to serve as a cultural ambassador for one’s home country
-Experience in a non-traditional teaching environment such as summer camps, youth groups or outdoor education will be advantageous, however, all candidates are considered

TEFL-YL (Cambridge CELT-P):

-English is the applicant’s first language (i.e. mother tongue)
-CELTA or CertTESOL or equivalent is preferred
-At least 21 years of age
