• The weather and clean air win people over. 84% of expats in Lisbon rate the climate and weather positively (vs. 58% globally) and 77% air quality.

• The food and coast are a joy. 90% rate culinary variety positively, with the ocean and beautiful nature close by (89%).

• It's a base for exploring Europe. 89% rate the opportunity to travel positively, with low-cost trips across the continent.

• Rent and rising costs are the biggest strain. Just 23% of expats in Lisbon rate housing affordability positively, and Brazilians describe a cost of living climbing faster than salaries.

• Bureaucracy is exhausting. Only 17% find it easy to deal with local authorities, and getting a bank account, papers, or a car feels needlessly hard.

• Work and pay are thin. Just 22% rate the local job market positively and 28% say the move improved their career prospects, with low-income jobs common.

• Some face xenophobia. A few Brazilians mention occasional hostility toward foreigners, alongside poorly insulated, unheated homes.

For Brazilians, Lisbon offers safety, sunshine, a shared language, and an easy, familiar base for exploring Europe. The trade-offs are rent, bureaucracy, and thin, low-paid work. It rewards those who come for the lifestyle and safety over career and cost.
