Hello and Welcome to Our Expatriate Community in Porto!

Olá and welcome to Porto, Portugal's second-largest city! An ancient and sprawling city in Portugal's Norte Region, life in Porto can take some getting used to for new arrivals. That's why at InterNations we offer an extensive platform where you can connect with a community of fellow expats and access a variety of useful resources. If you have questions about living and working in Porto, our members will be happy to provide the answers or you can also look for answers in our well-researched guide articles. You may need some information about the best districts of Porto for buying property, guidance on navigating the frustrations of Portuguese bureaucracy, or insider tips on the best bars and restaurants in the city. With members including recent arrivals and long-term residents, you'll have no trouble finding the answers you need. As a member of InterNations, we hope you'll also take the time to share your own experiences with your fellow community members.

More Information on Expat Life in Porto

An old, romantic city and UNESCO World Heritage Site, Porto has experienced considerable regeneration in recent years, with a major uplift in business and tourism aided by an efficient public transportation system and low-cost airlines making the city more attractive and accessible to expats and visitors. Those looking for a taste of real Portuguese culture will find much to enjoy here — from Porto's famous local wines to a multitude of delicious Portuguese restaurants and a thriving nightlife incorporating modern dance clubs and relaxed jazz and fado nights. Due to the attractive climate and relatively low cost of living, many expats come to Porto to retire and invest in property. However, the city also attracts many business-minded residents looking for opportunities in key industries such as the financial and service sectors, and the export industry. Like most of Portugal, the recession has hit business in Porto hard, but in recent years the situation has improved, and the city's population as a tourist hotspot remains relatively undimmed.

InterNations is the largest global network for expatriates, with communities in 420 cities around the world. Meet fellow global minds in your city of residence or get to know local expatriates before you're moving or traveling abroad and never feel like a stranger. InterNations makes it easy for you to stay in touch with your expat friends, both online and offline, so you can grow your network of friends and contacts from all over the world. Whether they live in Zurich or Berlin, InterNations allows you to be close to them even if they are miles away.

Our Network for Like-Minded Expatriates in Porto

Making connections in Porto couldn't be easier when you join InterNations. Security and respect are the key components of our platform, and we ask all of our members to respect our principles of openness, honesty, as well as friendly and welcoming behavior. If you have questions about living and working in Porto — such as finding legal or financial advice from a Portuguese-speaking professional, enrolling your children in an international school, or understanding the business culture in Portugal — many of our members will be able to help by sharing insights based on their own experiences. You can also use our community to make meaningful social connections — such as finding fellow expat parents and organizing a play date, joining a dance class or sports group, or simply meeting like-minded travelers for a glass of wine or a coffee. To help you to get started, InterNations invites you to attend one of our regular events in the city, where you can meet and mingle with fellow expats in one of Porto's many attractive venues.
