Tom Cruise has given us some amazingly baffling role choices and acting surprises over the decades, from Magnolia to Tropic Thunder to Rock of Ages. Every once in a while, he clearly enjoys doing something completely different.

So here he is now as Digger, in the satirical comedy by Academy Award winner Alejandro González Iñárritu, co-starring Sandra Hüller, Riz Ahmed, John Goodman, and Jesse Plemons.

Digger premiered in London last week. The official release date is Oct. 1. First reactions are mixed. Some call it a mess, others a masterpiece. As Variety put it: "The divide on this one is going to be wide."

I’ve already bought a couple of tickets to make it easier for us to sit together as a group. Contact me if interested.
