The Coopers' Dance (Schäfflertanz)
Only every seven years the Schäfflers show their historic dance.
The Schäffler Dance has existed for over Protected content . Originally, the dance served as a form of entertainment during times of plague.
Today, the dance tradition takes place every seven years. After the Protected content , the next regular performance will be in Protected content .
In Munich, the Schäffler Association organizes the dance.
During their performances, the Schäffler wear red and green costumes.
The dance consists of a sequence of specific figures and formations.
The dance sequence always begins and ends with the Bavarian Defiliermarsch (a traditional march). The middle section consists of a variety of figures, to which the coopers of the group turn in a circle, presenting creative formations such as the arbor, cross, snake, and crown. Actors and a clown entertain the guests with skits. A performance lasts approximately Protected content with 25 coopers and live brass band music from 10 musicians.
The dancers wear a red jacket, a green cap, a white vest, and the typical leather apron, along with a plague ribbon, a plague band, and a sash with a coat of arms.
Be on time, we meet at 11.40, 20 minutes before the performance start at the meeting point, and then we move in a better position according to the crowd and the dancers for watching the show.
