Find Out More about Life in Dubai

Dubai is an ultra-modern city, home to some of the world's tallest and most architecturally impressive skyscrapers. Despite being just 40 years old, its flavor for culture is clear — with its older backstreets, away from the newer areas of Dubai Marina and Downtown Dubai, host to some of the finest bars and restaurants in the city. While the region may be famous for oil (this was actually the founding business of the region in the 1960s), Dubai's industries now center around construction, tourism, and financial services, which have contributed to the enormous number of job prospects for expats from around the world. With so many expats already settled in Dubai, most groups and communities in the city are already made up of foreigners, and rarely include locals. While housing is a little expensive and general living costs are quite high in Dubai, expats have found it easy to settle in and have easily been able to call it their new home. Dubai also offers excellent education, but it can also be a little on the expensive side. Dubai is a great place for families, with 82% of expats reporting the friendly attitude locals have towards families in the city, and almost the same number confirming that the city is a very safe place to live. Most people move to Dubai for job prospects, with the government's increased spending on job creation. And whether you choose to live in a villa in Palm Jumeirah, close to the beach on Al Wasl Road, or if you prefer something bigger, such as one of the luxury villas in Arabian Ranches, Dubai has excellent transportation and road links into the city center.

InterNations is the largest global network for expatriates, with communities in 420 cities around the world. Meet fellow global minds in your city of residence or get to know local expatriates before you're moving or traveling abroad and never feel like a stranger. InterNations makes it easy for you to stay in touch with your expat friends, both online and offline, so you can grow your network of friends and contacts from all over the world. Whether they live in Khobar (Eastern Prov.) or Beijing, InterNations allows you to be close to them even if they are miles away.

Dubai is such an overwhelming mixture of tradition and modernity that I was very grateful for all the support from other expats.
