• The weather is a highlight. Sunshine and an easy climate stand out, and 84% of expats in Mexico rate the climate and weather positively, against 58% globally.

• The food and culture are a joy. Mexican cooking wins people over (92% rate culinary variety positively) alongside a rich history and lively culture (84%).

• Friendships come easily. 73% of expats in Mexico say making local friends is easy (vs. 39% globally) and 87% feel welcome.

• Your money goes further. 57% rate the general cost of living positively and 50% housing affordability, and there's endless sightseeing.

• Safety is the biggest worry. Crime and insecurity come up most, and 68% of expats in Mexico rate personal safety positively — below the global average of 81%.

• Corruption is far-reaching. Political stability rates just 45%, and Australians point to corruption as the deepest problem.

• Bureaucracy and air quality frustrate. Only 29% find dealing with authorities easy and 46% rate air quality positively.

• Careers can stall. Just 40% rate the local job market positively and 48% say the move improved their career prospects.

For Australians, Mexico offers warm weather, great food, friendly people, and an affordable, sociable life. The trade-offs are safety and corruption. With a small Australian sample here, treat this as a snapshot rather than the final word.
