Is Mexico a good move for British expats? These pros and cons come from the InterNations Expat Insider 2026 survey, in which thousands of expats around the world share what they like and don't like about life abroad each year. The points below reflect what British expats in Mexico wrote in their own words, backed up by survey percentages from all expats living there.

• The weather. Sunshine and an easy climate come up most, and 84% of expats in Mexico rate the climate and weather positively, against 58% globally.

• The food and culture. Mexican cooking wins people over (92% rate culinary variety positively) alongside a rich, charming history and culture (84%).

• People are warm and welcoming. 84% rate locals as friendly, 87% feel welcome, and 73% say making local friends is easy — nearly twice the global average of 39%.

• You get more value for your money. 57% rate the general cost of living positively and 50% housing affordability, and 85% are happy with life abroad.

• Safety is the biggest worry. Crime and insecurity come up most, and 68% of expats in Mexico rate personal safety positively, which is below the global average of 81%.

• Corruption. Political stability rates just 45%, and Britons point to corruption as a major, far-reaching problem.

• Infrastructure and air quality. Only 46% rate air quality positively, with poor infrastructure a recurring complaint.

• Local pay and rising prices bite. Wages in pesos are low, and Britons note prices climbing as more digital nomads arrive.
