Southampton is a major port city and its close location to London — just 75 miles away — makes it a very attractive place to live. Around 250,000 people live in Southampton, which is also within easy reach of the beautiful and wild New Forest. Living the expat life in Southampton means getting involved in the local culture, which includes the popular annual Southampton Boat Show, held in September each year. The city is also keen on its art and there are many excellent galleries to explore. Music venues such as the Mayflower Theatre and the Guildhall attract a lot of top artists and are great spots in which to see a show, while bands such as Oasis, Radiohead, and Green Day all played at the Joiners on their way to the top. Of course, Southampton's coastal location makes it a mecca for watersports and there are many marinas across the city.
Southampton's location on England's beautiful south coast makes it one of Britain's most beautiful cities. The city loves its sports too, with Southampton's football team — known locally as the Saints — playing in England's top division, the Premier League.
