• Nature and the outdoors are unbeatable. Mountains, lakes, and trails dominate the answers — 97% of expats in Switzerland rate the natural environment positively and 91% getting around on foot or by bike.

• Transport and travel are superb. 93% rate the availability of public transportation positively and 94% the opportunity to travel, with day trips across Europe easy.

• It's stable, safe, and efficient. 92% rate political stability positively, 93% personal safety, and 61% find bureaucracy easy (vs. 38% globally).

• Clean air and quality of life stand out. 89% rate air quality positively, and Britons praise the high standard of living and outdoor lifestyle.

• Everything is expensive. Just 21% of expats in Switzerland rate the general cost of living positively and 22% housing affordability, with health insurance a particular sting (35%).

• Locals can feel cold and aloof. Only 21% say making local friends is easy, and friendliness (51%) and feeling welcome (49%) both sit below global averages.

• The language is a barrier. Just 30% say the local language is easy to learn, which slows integration.

• It can feel quiet and pricey to dine. Culinary variety (57%) and nightlife (48%) come up as limits, with restaurants seen as costly.

For Britons, Switzerland offers breathtaking nature, superb transport, safety, and a stable, efficient life at the heart of Europe. The trade-offs are the eye-watering cost of living and a reserved social scene. It suits those who value the outdoors and order over an easy, affordable social landing.
