• Everything is expensive. Just 21% of expats in Geneva rate the general cost of living positively and 17% housing affordability, with health insurance a particular sting (30%).

• Locals can feel cold and closed. Only 41% rate friendliness positively, 30% say making local friends is easy, and 51% feel welcome.

• It can feel quiet and dull. Culinary variety (63%) and nightlife (49%) come up as limits, with Sundays especially sleepy.

• The housing market is punishing. Britons describe an impossible market for both renting and buying, with little disposable income left over.
