• Air quality is the biggest problem. Just 8% of expats in Bangkok rate air quality positively, driven by traffic and seasonal crop burning.

• Traffic makes getting around hard. Congestion is relentless, and only 65% rate getting around on foot or by bike positively.

• Bureaucracy and politics wear on people. Just 18% find dealing with authorities easy, especially for visa and work-permit renewals are a sore point and 37% rate political stability positively.

• Making close friends can be slow. Britons mention that friendships beyond work take time, and just 16% say Thai is easy to learn.

For Britons, Bangkok offers extraordinary food, a low cost of living, warm people, and a balanced, well-connected life. The trade-offs are the air quality, the traffic, and the paperwork. It suits those who come for the lifestyle and can plan around the burning season.
