InterNations — A Community for American Expats in Essen

Hello to all Americans in Essen! Are you interested in getting to know fellow expats in Essen? Looking for advice from other Americans, e.g. wondering if there are any bars in Essen which will be showing your favorite baseball or American football team’s upcoming match or where to go in town for st■ turkey?

There’s no doubt about it: living in Essen means life at the heart of the Ruhr area. The “European Green Capital” is a North Rhine-Westphalian city known for its past as one of Germany’s most important coal and steel centers, the transition from heavy industry to a strong service-oriented economy, its many recreational green areas, and much more! With the available underground (U-Bahn), suburban (S-Bahn), and regional trains, as well as tram and bus lines and a dense road network, navigating your way around the city from one place to the next is simple. This also means that if you don’t want to live among the hustle and bustle of the center, you can enjoy a quieter life in other parts of the Rhein-Ruhr area, which are an easy commute away from Essen’s center.

Although Essen has lots to offer, you might be wondering where and how you can meet other Americans in the city. Luckily, InterNations is here to make this easier for you! You’re warmly invited to join the InterNations community. Within our international network in Essen, there’s a vibrant circle of American expats from all regions of USA, including New York City, Los Angeles, and beyond.
