Is Singapore a good move for French expats? These pros and cons come from the InterNations Expat Insider 2026 survey, in which thousands of expats around the world share what they like and don't like about life abroad each year. The points below reflect what French expats in Singapore wrote in their own words, backed up by survey percentages from all expats living there.

What the French love about living in Singapore

  • It's safe, efficient, and superbly connected. Standout scores: 98% of expats in Singapore rate personal safety positively, 96% public transport, and 100% the opportunity to travel.

  • Careers and the economy are world-class. 96% rate the state of the economy positively, 80% say the move improved their career prospects, and 69% find bureaucracy easy (vs. 38% globally).

  • Healthcare quality is excellent. 90% of expats in Singapore rate the quality of medical care positively, against a global average of 71%.

  • Everything just works. The French praise the sheer efficiency and convenience of daily life, with 92% rating political stability positively.

  • Housing and costs are brutal. Just 8% of expats in Singapore rate housing affordability positively and 20% the general cost of living — among the lowest scores in the survey.

  • Healthcare is expensive. Only 29% rate healthcare affordability positively, against 61% globally.

  • The humidity wears on people. The equatorial climate and constant humidity come up as a real adjustment.

  • Belonging and balance can be hard. Only 32% say making local friends is easy and 50% are happy with their work-life balance.

Living in Singapore, I find it difficult that the lifestyle can feel unpredictable, as things can change very quickly. For example, rental prices have increased significantly since 2023, with some people facing increases of 80% or even 100%, making life increasingly unsustainable for families. — French expat in Singapore
