• Clean air and nature feel like home. 96% of expats in Sweden rate the natural environment positively and 91% air quality, and Canadians often compare it warmly to Canada.

• Healthcare and social values stand out. 82% rate healthcare affordability positively, and strong environmental and animal-welfare policies draw praise.

• Transport and cycling are excellent. 85% rate the availability of public transportation positively and it's easy to bike and travel from.

• It's safe and easy to settle. 51% find bureaucracy easy (vs. 38% globally) and 60% get by fine in English.

• Making local friends is very hard. Just 16% of expats in Sweden say it's easy — the lowest kind of score in the survey — and friendliness rates 45%.

• Winters are long and dark. Only 39% rate the climate and weather positively, and the darkness is a real adjustment.

• Careers can stall. Just 32% rate the local job market positively, and some Canadians take a step down in responsibility.

• The language gates integration. Learning Swedish is slow going, and Canadians say friendships open up only once you speak it.

For Canadians, Sweden feels familiar and offers clean air, great healthcare, and a balanced, well-run society. The catch is social and seasonal: reserved locals and long dark winters. Overall happiness (56%) sits below the global average of 70%.
