Indians in Muscat: The Pros & Cons of Expat Life
Thinking about moving to Muscat as an Indian? These pros and cons come from the InterNations Expat Insider 2024 survey, in which thousands of expats around the world share what they like and don't like about life abroad each year. The points below reflect what Indian expats in Muscat wrote in their own words, backed up by survey percentages from all expats living there.
What Indians love about living in Muscat
"- It's safe and genuinely welcoming. Indians praise the respect and warmth of locals, and 91% of expats in Muscat rate personal safety positively, with 83% rating friendliness and 57% saying making local friends is easy (vs. 39% globally).
-
Life is calm and easy. A relaxed, simple pace is the most common pro, backed by 82% rating the natural environment positively and 78% air quality.
-

-
It's stable and clean. 77% rate political stability positively and 79% say the government protects the environment, with good roads and infrastructure."

The downsides of Muscat for Indian expats
"- Getting around needs a car. Just 46% of expats in Muscat rate the availability of public transportation positively, and Indians describe it as almost non-existent.
-
Jobs insecurity. Localization policies weigh on foreign workers, and only 37% rate the local job market positively.
-
Social life can feel quiet. Culture and nightlife rate 55%, and Indians wish for more events and a livelier scene.
-
Healthcare costs and heat take adjusting. Only 51% rate healthcare affordability positively, and the summer climate rates 53%."

For Indians, Muscat offers safety, hospitality, clean air, and a calm, easy life where they feel respected. The trade-offs are the need for a car, a quieter social scene, and job security under localization. It rewards those who value peace and community over buzz and career mobility.
